i thought i's seen everything until now...
i have a dell laptop and complete docking station,
my cd rom broke down so i purchased a dony external cdrom
crx2100u (usb)
thinking i could reinstall the os from it;
wrong...
can anyone tell me if there is any way to install xp from
my cd without being able to get to the cdrom?
i know thats a dumb question and i expect to catch a lot
of flack from the question.
i am desperate here, i have other computers here also.
is there a direct connect i can do or anything to access
the cdrom on the other computer?
i think i have been confornted with everything possible
that has to do with computers for the last 15 years, but
this is a brand new one on me.

when you guys get through laughing please send me in the
right direction.
i only have a dos prompt on the laptop now.
Thank You
Bill

.

Bill,

Create a win98 boot disk and load it with either network
drivers for a NIC card and share the cd rom on one of your
other pc's

OR

Download the dos USB drivers and use it that way. it will
all fit on a floppy.

Hello Bill,
USB from DOS isn't going to work. I guess you could use a direct cable
connection utility between two computers of yours ("fx" for example)
to copy the contents of the cd to your harddrive after which you can
start the setup again. Greetings, Paul
