Wendy

I am working on a powerpoint presentation, and have
lost 3 hours of work. Can anyone help me?
I tried to print the document. While it was printing,
I pressed 'Cancel'. It said "changes have been made to
document. Save changes?" I said yes. But it seems to
have saved a much earlier version, from 3 hours ago.
Any help on how to locate a backup file would be a
lifesafer. (I've tried the most obvious places, and been
through the Microsoft 'troubleshooting' guide.

Wendy,

There is never a good way to break bad news to someone. Most of the
solutions will require more than the 3 hours worth of work you lost. Your
best bet, is to re-do your changes, hoping that the practice from last time
will make it go quicker.

This is a painful lesson in why we need to save often and save as versions.
There is a new add-in from Shyam that's available to helps. Here's the
link:

but this will not help you tonight. Take a deep breath, a small glass of
wine, & 2 aspirins; square your shoulders and vow never to do this to
yourself again. Good luck.

Well there is a long shot, if you want to try.

Look in your temp files for a file that was saved on the same day as you
presentation update you lost and that is about the right size. It will have
the extension TMP. Copy the file to the desktop and change the extension to
PPT. Try to open it. If it fails, delete it and go to the next candidate
file. There may be hundreds and you may spend an hour or two doing this
only to end up re-doing the show by hand anyway. But you make the call.
