Hi. I've followed the instructions to the letter from ..

http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

Set-up & format are successful. But, when I reboot after the ms-dos set-up screens, I am prompted to 'Insert BOOT diskette in A:' then press any key. Obviously, this is a vicious circle, booting from the cd to repeat the 'set-up' screens.

I believe the system need to reboot from C: but when I remove my WinXP disk and reboot I'm still not getting the next
'GUI set-up' phase.

I'm really at the end of my tether. Pls could someone advise me what to do

TIA
Titch.

It sounds like you might have some drive overlay utility, like EZ Bios, on
the drive. If that's the case, you'll either need to remove it, or you won't
be able to run by booting from the CD.

Thanks for the feedback D.Currie. Appreciated. Unfortunately, I'm not an expert in computing, so I don't know what a drive overlay utility/like EZ bios does, or where to find/delete it.

I don't have a problem booting from the cd - CD ROM is the first drive in Bios, and it's a new machine. So, I can boot and geet the 'set-up screens' that are ms-dos type screens; this successfully formats the drive and installs the set-up commands and drivers. My problem is that I cannot progress beyond this cycle once my system reboots ... it takes me back to the original ms-dos screens rather than move on to the 'GUI set-up' screens.

I didn't partition the drive (it's 40 GB) - would that make a difference? That is, I chose the full unpartitioned space instead of creating a new one. Would it be advisable to allocate 4.5 GB as a partition for the C drive?

Thanks for your help,
Titch.

Found out the problem. A simple one (as it usually is). In Bios CMOS my hd was uninstalled, just pressed F3 to detect hd, and everything running and installed great

Thanks for your help anyway
Titch.
