I'm not sure if I described this properly "Drum/roller" I mean. Somehow
something wrapped around one of these things, I can hear it all the time as
well. How can I get to that stupid thing and clean it off. Any help is very
very appreciated.............Peter

If something is wrapped around the drum, get a new toner cart. That's where
the drum is and if something is wrapped around it, the drum is damaged
beyond recovery.

Take the toner cartridge out and then examine the paper path in the printer.
Make sure there's nothing stuck under the various flaps. Also open the back
door and check around there as well. The toner cartridge contains the drum
(the big green roller). You can visually examine it for damage, but don't
touch it with your hands.

Bless you guys soooooooooooooooo much. I will report back after the
check.............Peter

I took out the toner cartridge and checked the only movable flap. It exposed
the green drum you guys said not to touch, and of course I didn't. It was
very hard to turn with the plastic cogged wheel. I thought I heard the
clicking sound in there that I hear whenever I turn the printer on. So you
are right, it must be something loose in there, a piece of plastic or
something. The drum was very dirty on many places across the whole drum. I
was not able to turn it around a full revolution, it was just too tough.
Should I even do it? I don't mind just buying a new toner cartridge. How do
you clean the drum, or do you even attempt it? I did find some plastic
pieces a couple of days ago, like film like stuff in the output tray. Now I
can't find anything loose or sticking out anywhere. How would anything get
in or out of that cartridge in the first place? The toner cartridge was a
original toner cartridge, just to mention that. Any further help is
appreciated...........Peter

Better safe than sorry replace the cartridge there might be a piece of the
housing that has broke away inside if it jams it may do damage to your drive
assembly <very expensive fix>

I will replace the cartridge this morning........done deal........Thanks
again........Peter

You can print a cleaning page by holding down the button on the front of the
printer until all three lights start blinking (about 10 seconds). This
should remove most of the caked-on residue on the drum. Might need to do
this two or three times. HP-brand toner cartridges have a lifetime
warranty, so contact them if it's truly defective. They will replace it
free of charge.

Well, here we go. I went and got a cartridge. The first couple of pages had
a very dirty 1/2 wide screen from the left top to the left bottom down the
side. Does that mean the printer took a dump? It really worries me now. Same
noise as before. Is there another drum that I could look at now . Please let
me know.......Peter
