Suddenly a column appeared on my desktop with Folder tasks, other places and details as options in this column I wish it to go away and nothinng works any suggestions?

Hi,
You should simply be able to right-click on a blank area on the new column
(toolbar) and then there will be an option called 'Close Toolbar'. Click
that and it should go away. Also, if that doesn't work then try
right-clicking on a blank area on the basic start-menu, then goto
'Toolbars', and then uncheck the one that has popped up.
