Spyware took over my desktop. The desktop was black with
a warning message that I didn't have spyware loaded on my
PC and I was directed to sites to purchase spyware. On
the bottom bar, a folder labeled "Hi" appeared (no,
not "Hi, Neo")and I could not open or close it. Installed
beta spyware, ran it, and black desktop went away. But
now, the desktop alternates between shades of white. I
can't use right mouse button to arrange icons and can't
set a picture as my desktop. What happened?

Hi Anne,

Boot into Safe Mode (F8) at startup;
Empty your temporary files AND your Temporary Internet Files C:\Documents
and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files folder ;
Run the scan while in safe mode;
If you are running SP2, open IE--->Tools--->Manage Add-ons, and uncheck any
BHO's that you don't recognize.
