I have only recently started to use Windows XP. I had ME
before and used to be able to customise a colour on my
desktop by choosing a pattern, i.e. basket weave or
something like that. Then I would centre a picture of my
choice against this background. This option doesn't seem
to be available in XP, I can only find plain colours -
does anybody know if it is possible to pattern your chosen
colour in XP?

Try display in control-panel,desktop,select a background,
the look for the sml color box next to it,select a color.
If you get the properties of the wallpaper(file type)
go to search, type in the properties, find basket weave,
L.click the icon, select copy this file, then you could
minipulate it as desired,when thru,R.click it,save as
desktop background.XP Paint might help in doing that.

Patterns are no longer available via Display properties. Colors only as you
have discovered already.

Hi,
Sharon correectly points out that patterns are no longer available through
the desktop properties but if you want, you can apply patterns through the
registry. Information on how to accomplish that can be found here:

Very cool, Anando! I was never a pattern fan but I know they're out there.
They will be very happy to learn that little trick.

Thank you - I'll give it a go.
