Desktop Toolbar loss of function

I'm not sure if any one else has encountered this problem besides myself as
of yet. The 'error' occurs once the OS has typically been running for a
couple of days.
I enjoy the Desktop toolbar instead of the actual desktop screen. It allows
me to hide the items and enjoy my webshots wallpapers more fully.
However, with Vista I've noticed I lose nearly all functionalitiy of the
toolbar. All I can do is click the '>>' symbol and hover over items to view
their contents. I can't left or right click anything without the toolbar
dissappearing and doing absolutely nothing. Normally a left click would open
a folder for further viewing or open a program. Also a right click would open
a submenu with the usual options. It is quite frustrating for those of us who
are accustomed to using windows this way. Not to mention I have to restart
the PC to 'fix' the problem. And is also affects the way users can restart,
log off, and shut down. One has to use ctrl+shift+esc and search the task
manager for the option to disconnect or log off. Or one must use ctrl+alt+del
and wait for the 'other' screen to open select the drop down menu in the
lower right-hand corner. and select your power options from there. This adds
to the frustration of a shiny new OS as well. Hopefully I'm not the only one
and if we All whine profusely it will be 'patched' by a magical update. If I
knew what was triggering the occurence it would probably help in expediting
the repair of the bug

I don't think that problem is universal. I use the 'Desktop' toolbar and
folders cascade, documents open & programs launch. Something unusual is
causing the behavior you're seeing.
