Desktop Theme Icons.

I don't know when this happened, or what caused it, but
for some strange reason the desktop theme icons I have
revert to their default settings when I play Windows
Media Player 9, or am on the net, or even when I'm just
working with a word document. Dose anyone know what's
causing this?

How interesting, Bruce. Can you be most specific as in only when I .... or
is it the combination?

Check/verify your settings here:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics]
"Shell Icon BPP"="16"
"Shell Icon Size"="32"

Also run this command:
Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 /i shell32

That's a problem, I can't clealify exactly what changed
them. It could be starting my PC (which I did this
evening and they were changed) to starting Windows Media
Player 3 to being on the net. I have no clue, and I did
try your regsvr32 /i shell32 suggestion, and it say it
succeeded. The bpp and size are exactly what you wrote.
I'm getting to feel that it's just one of Microsoft's
little annoying bug that everyone has to try to live with
until Microsoft realizes that there is a problem. And I
know for a fact that I didn't have this problem until I
patched my OS from the Updates site a few weeks ago.
