Ater running a spyware scan of my system using the new beta release, a
warning image has appeared on my desktop screen that won't go away. It reads,
SPYWARE INFECTION
Your system is infected with spyware. Windows recommends you use a spyware
removal tool to prevent loss of important data and increase system
performance. Using this pc before having it cleaned from spyware threats is
highly discouraged.

I cannot remove this image even when I go into Display Properties/Desktop.
The other background wallpapers are unaccessable.
I deleted the entire beta spyware program, reinstalled it, ran another scan,
and I still can't get rid of the message on my desktop screen.

Hi azrandyusa;
See if this thread in the MSAS onlinecommunity newsgroup doesn't help:
Subject: Blue Screen on Desktop

Hello Dave
I am having exactly the same problem as azrandyusa, but I'm sorry you are
going to have to explain how to deal with a little simpler, as I couldn't
follow your instructions
Cheers
Helen

Hi Helen;

You have a variant of the SmitFraud Infection.
Download and use Smitrem, Ewido and finally Ccleaner to remove temp files.

Andy Manchesta lays out the detailed clean instructions for this infection very
clearly in the
microsoft.private.security.spyware.onlinecommunity forum in this topic:

Subject: Blue Screen on Desktop

Go over to that forum, find the post by Sid on November 11th, and follow Andy's
instructions for removal.
If you have any problems with Andy's information, post over there instead of on
this install forum, since this one is for installation problems with MSAS, not
for infection removal.

Thanks Dave
I found that thread after I wrote to you and Ewido found no less than 78
infections. We had to run it a couple of times but it has fixed the problem
beautifully. I will run the other two as well
Thanks
Helen
