Desktop SMS + IE7 Protected Mode = problem

Hello,

I have a BHO that occassionally writes to disk. It works fine on other
Windows versions except Vista. Specifically, the bug occurs only when Desktop
SMS is running and Protected Mode is on. My BHO ceases to be able to write to
disk-- namely the ProgramData directory. When either Desktop SMS is not
running OR Protected Mode is off, the BHO is able to write to the ProgramData
area fine.

What's going on?

Hello,

This behavior is due to IE's protected mode. Anything running inside the
browser process only has write access inside of a very restricted sandbox.
In order to write outside of this sandbox, you have to ask the user for
consent.
