Hello Microsoft. I have a small but irritating problem
for which I should be grateful for your help
I am using Windows XP. I have two hard drives (named C:
and F: in my set-up), a floppy drive (A, a CD/DVD
player (E, and a CD writer (D.
I find it convenient to have on my Desktop shortcuts to
the various drives: it saves the bother of opening "My
Computer" every time.
For several months I had shortcuts to all the above
drives installed and properly working. Suddenly, without
any reason known to me, the icons for the "removables"
(A:, E:, D were no longer recognised, and all attempts
to re-establish them have been unsuccessful. Shortcuts to
the permanently installed hard drives are unaffected.
I think that the change followed a download of a Windows
Update, but I do not know which one or exactly when it
happened. If any other misguided action of mine was
responsible, I have no idea what it was.
Has anyone encountered this problem before, and if so is
there any advice about how the original status can be
restored? What I really need is a pre-devised patch,
because I am not competent to tamper with the Registry. I
do, however, have "Go-Back", so I suppose that I can a
few risks.
Thank you in advance for any help.
