Drag any shortcut from your desktop to the quick lauch
section of the task bar. You see that there is a faint
divider bar and you have to position the shortcut your
dragging to the left of that and between any other
shortcuts. Only three shortcuts are visible at a time
(as far as I can tell) and you have to click on the right
side "carrots" or arrows to see the others. Also you
have to enable "Quick Launch" if you haven't done it
already by right clicking on the taskbar, select
properties and click "Show Quick Launch"

Ben,

All the quicklaunch shortcuts are stored in this location:
C:\Documents and Settings\<<User name>>\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Quick Launch

Simply drag a shortcut to the above location using Windows Explorer.

how do i add a desktop shortcut to my quick launch
toolbar?

if you 'unlock' the bottom toolbar you can stretch it at
the >> symbol to expose more then three icons. you will
see some small dots and position cursor on the dots and
drag to the right. it does make less space for active
windows items so if you have small screen they get
smaller. have fun with the launch area....
