desktop shortcut to web and favorites link to web

at one time my desktop shortcuts and favorites listing to
websites (google) had a specific icon (capital G). All
of a sudden both of these went to the generic ie blue e.

I deleted, recreated the favorite, the specific icon
returned. Deleted desktop shortcut, recreated, the
specific did NOT return, generic blue e icon.

how do I get the specific icon back?

just tried the steps again for desktop. This time
specific icon does show up as desired, but is
very "fuzzy" "out of focus". Ideas?
