Desktop settings

I keep seeting my desktop to a modified picure and color
scheme (All standard MS choices) These stay in place for
some time, but my computer gives a little 'chirp and
resets them all to the default. Maybe one - two hours
later, but it always does it. Drives me crazy. What is
happening and how do I stop it?
