I manage the computers in my office, and their are 5 'public' computer. I
would like to have all the desktops have the same appearance. What is the
file name that stores the desktop settings, and if I copy that file from one
to the other, will that alone do what I want to do.

Thanks,

Hi Jim,

Windows XP has a program that should automate this for you, try...

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Files and Settings
Transfer Wizard

If you want to do it manually then you need to copy the .Theme file (usually
found in YOUR documents folder) which has the same name as YOUR current
theme found in the desktop properties panel (right click the desktop and
select "Properties", the first tab is called Themes and the name of your
current theme is in the dropdown menu box).

Next you would need to copy over an assets used by your current setting, for
example the picture used as the desktop wallpaper, any pointers and sounds.

If you're using a non-standard theme then you also need to copy the
..msstyles files from C:\Windows\Resources\Themes and the hacked uxtheme.dll
from C:\Windows\system32 and C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386.

hope this helps

Andy
