When I boot up, the desktop screen shrinks an inch all
around the screen, leaving a black unused portion of the
screen. It just started to do this. How can I get my
desktop screen to occupy the "whole" screen? Thanks...

This has to do with the refresh rate that your video card is set to in
relation to what your monitor supports. You need to go to display
properties and check your refresh rate. Also if you go to advanced
properties you may have a page where you can adjust your display area
(this is dependent on video driver.
