I'm trying to "fix" my younger sister's pc that she "blew up" as most
teenagers do! Anyway, when booting up the pc, Windows XP begins to function
seemingly normal, but once it's time for the desktop to appear, the screen
goes blank. Not sure what's going on, but I would like to just uninstall and
reinstall XP, wiping out the hard drive and starting fresh.
I've inserted the Operating System CD and am able to press F12 and select
CD-ROM. After that, the screen again goes blank and there are no signs that
the pc is attempting to uninstall and reinstall itself.
Help!

If you have a retail version of XP you need to enter BIOS and set CD as 1st
boot device.
Then start System with CD in place and watch for "Press any key to boot from
CD"......from there the installation routine starts.....

If you have a Machine that came with a Recovery CD or Partition you will
need to follow the manufacturers instructions.

Which one are you endeavoring to use??

Thank you. I have a reinstallation cd that came with the Dell desktop. I
will have to see if the CD drive is set as the 1st boot device. Didn't think
of that!
Hoping for the best.
