Hi! i have made internet explorer 6 package with IEAK 6, installed on many
pc. On the same achines there is also firefox 2.0, but ie 6.0.280 SP1 is the
default browser. When i make double click on desktop link, explorer opnes,
but, after few seconds, displays the message:"unable to open the page, unable
to find the server or DNS error."Doing a refresh, the page works properly. I
tried the microsoft kb281679, but nothing have changed. Anyway, the
IE6WZD.exe file that is signed to be replaced into IEAK folder, is newest.
What is the problem?

Thanks to all

Hi!
All the links i put on the desktop exhibit the same behavior. I forgot to
tell that the O.S. is Windows 2000 SP4.I tried to do a windows update
installing the latest Cumulative patch, but nothing changes. By the second
link you show me, i can tell that i try to enable/disable HTTP 1.1 and
encoding autoselect, but nothing have changed. By the rest of the page you
have shown, i have to do a question:in the "folder options", File Types, i
have ONLY:URL INTERNET SHORTCUT, opened by" rundll32.exe shdocvw.dll,OpenURL
%1" with NO DDE. Have i to make a new file type named URL:HYPERTEXT ecc....
and URL:GOPHER, or have i to change the file type URL:INTERNET SHORTCUT?

Thanks

Alex

Did you copy and paste that or type it manually?
In any case there is an error in it. E.g. instead of %1 it should be %l
(lower case L). Also, DDE is enabled by default.

Since this is IE6 you should try that IE Repair link that PA Bear gave you.
FYI it is a cmd file provided courtesy of MVP Kai Schaetzl:

http://iefaq.info/index.php?action=artikel&cat=24&id=31&artlang=en

Download it and execute it. Since it is based on the old IE Repair
which used to be done during a boot when *nothing* else is running
I usually suggest as well that it might be a good idea to do it during
a safe boot when at least *less* is running. ; )

However, the real reason he provides it is for XP users who don't
have a real IE Repair at all (or, in the case of XPsp2 users,
who have a broken one. <eg>)

Your OS does have an IE Repair so you could try it as well
and then you would get whatever extra benefit there is of doing it
during a boot too. E.g. the simplest way to describe starting it is
to Run... (press Win-R) and Enter:

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance

Wow, it's been months since I've had a chance to type that. ; )

Good luck

I was only trying to help amend a possible misinterpretation of
PA Bear's suggestion. The first thing that I thought of when I
read your first post was spyware or faulty networking.

Try making your Home Page About:Blank to change your initial symptom.
If it is a case of spyware that initial open may be enough for it to try doing
whatever it tries to do and then leave the connection clear for you to do
whatever you want with less likelihood of its interference. Similarly if it is
a case of a networking problem getting reinitialized after a long idle period,
having some spyware (which you don't care whether it fails or succeeds)
to get things going again could be useful to you. ; )

Good luck
