I want to make a desktop link to my website that I can
email to my customers so that they can drag and drop it
onto their desktop. The problem I am having is that
the link to the website is getting to their desktop, but
the icon is not. Can anyone help me please? - and if this
is not the correct newsgroup to ask this question, could
anyone suggest one that I might try? TIA

You can't do what you want. The icon.ico file that generates the picture
has to go in a certain place on the computer. It is either placed there by
the browser at the time the user creates the shortcut, or the user has to
put it there manually.

You cannot do what you want to do.

If he cannot do it - it cannot be done.

You may want to ask in programming - that is a very good idea. It works
cause everytime I install a new app it installs an icon on my desktop - Why
didn't you think of that...?

In order for the icon to show up, the link must be created by a user
directly from their IE browser, either as favorite or by dragging the URL
from the address bar on to the desktop, and if the user clears their history
or browser cache, the icon will be deleted.

The shortcut and the icon are two different files. As a result, no
single "drag" out of an e-mail message can install them both.

In install both files, you would have to crete a setup program that
the user would double-click.
