On a windows 2000 network, when users delete items on
their desktop, they return when they log in again.

default policy, probably. Or, its on the All Users profile on the comp. If
you delete it from a specific users desktop, it will be there again when
they login again.

I also have this problem. I know the items are on my profile desktop, and as
I'm a Domain admin I have no policies applied.

I've posted this before and not been able to find a solution.

you should check the default profile on the computer
itself this is a hidden folder in most domain networks,
and you shoul remove it from both you profile folder on
the server ( you should be able to get into that folder )
and your desktop on the computer and if they are in the
all users folder you should remove it from there to, that
wasy you know for sure that it's gone on every possible
place

Although this is an option, I need to simply delete any icons or documents I
place on the desktop any make them disappear.
I do not want to have to get all the users to do this procedure in order to
simply remove files. This has to be a bug somewhere in Win2K.

Hopefully someone has found a soultion!

well it is quite logic and no bug i can assure you that.

the all users is for all the users, if the links are there
they will be displayed on every profile that's why it's
called all users.
and you should delete it from both the local computer and
the server because the synchronise some files, but from
experience it does not always sync the desktop.

ok i admit there would be the bug but for local accounts
you only have to remove it from the all users and your own
profile and your ready to go.

When I or a user saves a document to our desktops, it appears in our desktop
profile and not the 'All users'. I often quickly save documents from e-mail
to my desktop and when finished delete them. The problem is that they
reappear at next logon.

The profile is copied back to the server at logoff so surely the files
should not reappear.

As you say if the files we to reside in 'all users' then I would expect them
to reappear but not in a user profile. I should say that it is an
intermittent problem and doesn't occur every time.

I know that under Windows NT this happens...

But I thought that they _fixed_ this in Windows 2000... Oh dear!!!
