David,
Use the Remember each folder's view settings option in Folder Options.
As an one time procedure, apply this fix from MVP Kelly. This fix actually increases the folder settings cache.

Thanks for your reply Ramesh, I have already used "apply to all folders" as
you describe and it works like it should, but I don't want to set all
folders the same(cause I want large icons in control panel and list in all
others). Is there a way to change only control panel?
Hi David,
The same rule applies to Control Panel as well [the Folder views etc]. It's
stored in a registry subkey here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags
To change the views for all folders [including Control Panel], open Windows
Explorer and customize the views. Then go to Tools/Folder Options/View/Apply
to all folders. If the settings do not stick, read below the note from
Kelly:
<quote>
Windows [XP] remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached some
settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by adding
this edit to the registry.
Run this edit, then reset your preferred folder options:

the control panel doesn't save it's display settings.I know the control
panel is a virtual folder and wouldn't actually have a *normal* file in it
but, is there something that takes desktop.ini place?
