desktop icons

My desktop icons/folders have a background around the
text. I went to the Display Properties and tried to
change the appearance. I don't know if I'm missing
something, but nothing seems to work. Would anyone know
how to remove the background around the text?

Hi Joe,
Right click on My Computer>Properties and flip to the advanced tab. Click
on settings under "performance" and scroll down the list of effects and put
a check next to "Use drop shadows...."
