I'm using PowerPoint Office 2007. I have two presentations with icons on my
desktop. One of the icons is a miniature of the actual first slide of the
presentation. The other icon is a generic PP icon. Why the difference? I
didn't consciously select one or the other.

I could be mistaken, but I *think* this happens when you make edits to the
title slide layout. If that is indeed the case, then it's a bug.

It could also be that there is no preview in that presentation / template.
For that, check Office Button | Prepare | Properties | Document Properties |
Advanced Properties | Summary and make sure "save preview picture" is checked.
