Go to system properties. Click advanced tab. Under performance settings,
uncheck "use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" close that and
go to display properties. Click appearance and then advanced. In the item
box find desktop. Choose the color you want to use there.

What does using Firefox 2.0.0.8 have to do with your request?

Turn off the transparency of the desktop icons, apply a picture to the
background, change the solid background color to whatever you want.

Start button -- RUN --> control sysdm.cpl --> OK.
Advanced tab --> Performance settings button --> uncheck "use drop shadows
for icon labels on the desktop"

Start button -- RUN --> control desk.cpl --> OK.
Desktop tab --> Color.
