Desktop icons

Recently the icons on my desktop have been reconfigured so that when I click
on any of them they open with the search function. I don't know how this
happened or how to correct it.

When I use the right click funtion on my mouse to open a icon the first
three items at the top of the box are: Explore, Browse with PaintShop Pro 7,
and Open or other words. I cannot double click and have the icon open up
normally.

My question is how do I repair this mistake?

Greetings:
Because it is a quiet day today I decided to play some music on my
computer. I have used Real Player or Windows Media Player. So I went into
Start, Programs and chose Real Player. It opened up on my screen and I
picked a recently burned CD of music by Bill Joel. I put the CD in and was
about to open the selections when something unusual happened.

My computer went and restarted itself. I did nothing, I just sat there and
watched it go through the process. Once it had restarted and came back to
the desktop I wondered if the program had rejected just the copied CD? I
took a big chance and tried a commercial CD using the same program and Real
Player did the same thing. It restarted the computer. I thought it must be
the software so I removed Real Player and reinstalled just the basic copy
from your folder [ I didn't have your code from your folder] and then tried a
commercial CD. It went into restart and did a restart again

The reason I am writing this is, because this what happened about three
weeks ago when I started having problems with the folders opening to the
Search function screen. I had a recently copied CD in the drive and more
than one media player opened. I positioned my mouse in the top right hand
corner to close the unwanted programs. This was the first time my computer
restarted itself and after that I had problems with my folders.
