I can find no option for making the background of text
beneath icons transparent. Can only change colors, but I
know I used to be able to do this on Win 98... necessary
when using an image as bg on desktop.

Thanks,

Kajac

For the icon background, do this: Open Control Panel and then open the
"System" control panel application. Click on the "Advanced" tab and click
on the "Settings" button under the "Performance" area. Scroll to the bottom
of the list under the "Visual Effects" tab and make sure the "Use drop
shadows for icon labels on the desktop" box is checked. If it is, uncheck..
Click OK. Go back there, check it and click OK again. Then click OK to
close the original open window.

Appreciate your help, but I've tried it checked and
unchecked... rebooted, checked again... no change. Other
ideas?

Kajac...

You didn't do it on 98 cause 98 can't do it. You also have to have NOT locked Desktop items, right click desktop - Arrange Icons By - Lock Desktop Items
