Desktop Icons won't stay in place.

Every time I run a certain program (Intel QX3 microscope), when I close the
program, and get back to the desktop, all my icons (from my carefully laid
out desktop) are clustered in the top left hand corner of the screen.

Any solutions to stop this annoying "feature" (other than not using the
program). I have the latest Win XP drivers for the microscope.

Thanks

Rob Lepper

What works for me is,

Right click the desktop
Arrange Icons by
Align to grid

And only one other check mark, Show Desktop icons.

That's my settings as well Don, but when I use the QX3 program, the icons
move to their top left position. The QX3 works at a different screen
resolution to my desktop, and I think that may have something to do with the
problem - shifting back and forwards between the different resolution
settings.

Thanks anyway,

Rob Lepper

do a google search for a program called MYDESKTOP (all one word) it a small
program that doesnt cost a lot, but with one click you can save your desktop
icons as you like them, then if it changes you can set it back to your last
setting again with one click, i had the same problem at home and found this
program after a lot of searching, been using it for years and its fantastic,
if like me your desktop is full and you set it up how you like it, there is
nothing more annoying than having it destroyed!!!! hope this helps.....pete

Thanks Pete - I'll give it a go !

Hi Rob i don't know much about pc but could u go into control panel
then accounts set one name for ur current desk top and make up a name typ it
in as a 2nd person using pc whice creats a 2nd desk top.use 2nd desk top
while using intel program let it mess up desk top then log out as that
"person" log in as 1st person whice gives u the first desk top not messed
up.when ever u want to use intel thing log on as 2nd person & use the other
desk top...

I have one icon on my desktop, that is one of the Windows "generic" icons. I
want to change it to something more representative, but right clicking and
bringing up "Properties" shows a greyed out "Change Icon" button.
How do I do this (change the icon), if I can't select the button ?

Thanks,

Rob Lepper

Do a Google search on "wintidy".

It's the icon for Paintshop Pro. It was originally the PSP Icon, but
somewhere along the line, it changed. I might just create a new one, and see
if I can change it.

If I am reading you right, you have your desktop icons a certain way, and
they wind up in a bunch on the upper left. I think if you right click on the
desk top, you will find that auto-arrange is checked. Uncheck it.
