This morning I noticed that most, not all, of my desktop
icons have an additional icon on top of them. They still
work, just look bad. Also in explorer some of the folder
icons on the tree pane have a different icon, not the
standard yellow folder. An help would be greatly
appreciated.

Control Panel|Display|Appearance|Advanced and change the icon size by one,
apply changes, then go back in and change the size back. This should cause
the operating system to rebuild the shelliconcache file which is probably in
a corrupt state.

Dave, you are the man, thanks for your help. This seems to
have solved the problem. What is odd, I deleted the
Shelliconcache file earlier but it did not help.

Glad to hear it's sorted. Thanks for the feedback.
