Desktop Icons Doubling Up

Hi, recently I've been trying to delete some of the shortcuts on my desktop but it has been completely failing.I basically have two icons for every shortcut, one that works and one which doesnt. The one which doesnt work, I cant delete or move or anything, its just there. I'm a bit confused as to why two icons are now appearing instead of just one, and was wondering if there was a way of removing the icon which is just basically appearing as a complete useless icon which cant be moved or used.

Can yon right click on the shortcut and see where it is pointing to please? It may be possible to delete the shortcuts if you boot up into safe mode
