Desktop icons all crammed together

After using the Accessibility Options to customize two computers for
vision-impaired students, I tried to remove the adaptations and was able to
get most of it back, but the icons on the desktop and in folders are crammed
so closely together you can't read the names or click on the right icon.
I've been through Accessibility Wizard, Control Panel>Accessibility Options,
Desktop Properties (Display, Themes, Appearance..etc.), Folder Options,
everything I could think of to return it all to default. No luck. Can
anyone help?

Try this fix from here:

No, but it may be a permissions issue. When logged in as a student (where
the problem occurs), the regedit fix won't run. When logged in as a teacher
(with limited administrative rights), it runs...but the icon problem isn't
evident anyway when logged in that way.

Eventually I may have to ask IT to reimage the computers, but I'd rather fix
it myself if possible, since it'll probably happen again.
