Hi,

RE: desktop icon text readability!!

I have asked in the XP newsgroup but no has been able to help.

I wonder if anyone here can help?

The text under the icons on my brand new Win XP system are difficult to
read.

somehow when I tweaked my laptop last year I was able to get a permanent
blue background to the text.

does anyone know how I can do this to my new tower system?

thanks.

Start > Control Panel > Display > Appearance > Effects

check "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:"

select clear type in the drop down Box

I have tried that.

The size is set to normal but still no solid blue background to the text
under the icons.

I have been into effects and advance buttons, I can change the font but
not get a decent background to the text.

This is set but no solid background, just white text with what appears
to be shadows to the edges.

It cant be too hard I did it on my laptop.

I have compared the systems and the setting look identical.

The desktop is a CRT screen, could that be effecting the display of the
text?

Thanks

Control Panel -> System -> Advanced tab -> in the Performance block, Settings ->
Uncheck "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop." Apply. OK.

Oops. That's the right answer. Somehow I didn't even get the question
right!
