Desktop Icon Labels

Has there been a new feature slipped in where only the icons are shown and
not there respective labels? I've done something and all I can see on the
desktop are the IE, My Computer and Recycle Bin icons
 
I have the same problem and cannot find anywhere to restore them.

All the icons are there, but no captions/labels.
