I often VPN into our network and then establish a remote desktop connection
to my pc at work. This has worked fine for several months but recently it
stopped working and I am at a loss as to why. I suspect that I have a
problem with the Windows Firewall but I have made no changes to it. I have
tried turning off the firewall but still have no luck connecting. The
desktop has no issues connecting to the network or accessing local network
resources but I can not get the machine to respond to a ping (I have made
sure that the firewall is set to respond to ICMP requests on the advanced tab
in the firewall). I also have an exception set in the firewall for remote
desktop. I am at a loss as to how to fix this issue. I really want to avoid
reloading the operating system on this machine.
