Hi All - WinME
I don't know if this might be a cause of the problem that just
started, but, I downloaded and installed the AVG free edition to try
in my testing for a new AV. I uninstalled my old AV so that there
would be no chance of conflict. However, after I installed the AVG, I
had to reboot, and the desktop just hung up with nothing but the
bottom toolbar showing (with the Start button). I waited some time,
then did a ctrl+alt+del and at the top of the box was Explorer (not
responding). This seemed odd, so I just click on End Task...nothing.
Then I clicked Shut Down...still nothing, so I finally had to shut it
down with the computer power button. When I turned it back on again,
I got the scan disk thingie, I let it do it't stuff, then the desktop
came up just fine. It did the same thing when I first turned the PC on
this morning. I uninstalled and reintalled the AVG and when I
rebooted, it hung and wouldn't reboot. I had to turn it off at the PC
and restart. Then it came up with the scan disk, etc. again.
I am just wondering if there is a connection between the installation
of the AVG and the problem, as it just started when I had to reboot
after installing the AVG program. Is this a known situation?
I would truly appreciate any suggestions or references on this
problem.
Best regards,
Jan
