Desktop Folder named "~"

A folder named ~ has started to appear on my desktop.
From its properties, I cannot tell which application
creates it nor can I view its contents using Quickview or
other means. There is some type of data in the folder. I
am concerned about it. My antivirus software is up to
date and I access the net through a combination
firewall/router (Linksys). Any ideas?

Hi

That same "~" has appeared here four times in different
machines.
It seems to have part of my Wab file in it.
No Virus has been detected , so I am also keen to find
out what does it.
