Desktop flashes

Bob

?? After logging in, the desktop begins flashing at about
1 second intervals. The mouse stays on the screen and
moves around OK. If you click on the start button, the
menu just begins to pop up when the icons all go out
again... PC starts OK in safe mode... ???
 
Thanks Ray,,,, The pc isn't on a network.. Its been
awhile since installing anything, but I'll try
uninstalling the latest..

Sounds like you're on a server (where autorestartshell defaults to true) and
explorer.exe keeps crashing and restarting on you. Try [re]installing the
latest service pack, and make sure that you do not have anything open, in
particular, Internet Explorer. (Check your processes tab in task manager to
be sure that there are no iexplore.exe processes running.)

Not uninstalling - reinstalling. If your machine's on a network, the SP may
have been slipstreamed onto your computer without your knowing it.
