I downloaded an image from Google as desktop wallpaper. I ended up with
a split image. Half of my original desktop and half the new image. I
cannot change the new image half except to squeeze it to one side of
screen. The original part I can change to any of the images I already
had. I also ended up with the titles of my icons in a solid color.
How do I eliminate the split screen image and change the icons back to
transparent?
Thanks for any help available.

Hopefully, the image you downloaded from Google wasn't infected
with a virus.

Try the following:
Go to Start -> Control Panel and double click Display.
In Display Properties, click on the Desktop tab.
Hit the "Customize Desktop" button.
In Desktop Items, click on the Web tab.
Click on any items that are listed below "My Current Home Page"
to highlight them.
Hit the Delete button.
Remove the check mark from the box next to "Lock desktop
items".
Click OK twice.

Good luck
