Desktop customized for each user

In XP, under each user name was a subdirectory labeled "Desktop" and this
contained all the shortcut and/or program icons for that user. If I
installed a program, i.e., Visual Studio, under my user name, the shortcut
would also show up in my wife's desktop. Since she had no use for Visual
Studio, I would use Windows Explorer to delete the Visual Studio shortcut
from her desktop. It remained on my desktop, however.

How is this done in Vista? My wife's user name in Windows Explorer has a
"Desktop" subdirectory but the only thing in there is desktop.ini. However,
her desktop has all the shortcut icons mine does.

What's the secret? How or where do I have to go to remove all those icons
from her desktop?

Thanks,

Turner

C:/users/public/desktop is common to all users.
Move from there to your /desktop folder the ones you don't want for your
wife.
Or delete them from public, and create them
