Desktop CD recording

I have 3 pc's 2 with cd/rw and my newest with DVD/RW-CD/RW. On the 2 with
CD/RW i am able to turn on Desktop CD burning (my computer/right click on
drive/properties/recording tab/click on Enable CD recording on this drive).

On the newest pc I have a sony DRU-120C and do not see a recording tab when
I click on properties for this drive. I assume XP does not recognize this
drive as a burner? Other than that I can use it to burn ok through Nero but
not through desktop cd recording/CD writing wizard.

Any suggestions as to why XP does not see the drive as being able to record?

Thanks.

When you go into Device Manager and click on the DVD drive, then on
Recording, is it set as a drive able to record?

Carl, thanks for the reply

The problem is that i do not get a reording tab to turn on cd recording.
When I go to My computer/right click on the drive/click on properties, there
is no recording tab available. I assume this is what you were asking. I do
not see this option going thru Device manager, even on my pc's where desktop
recording works. You go thru My Computer.

Or is there software like Roxio's Drag'n'Drop, Ahead's InCD or some such
installed, preventing XP from using its own CD-writing service??

Jaymon,

Thanks for the reply.

One problem solved. I updated the register per the article and it seemed to
work ok. I can now go into the properties and see a recording tab. Problem
now is, it does not recognize when I have a cd-r disc in the drive. Keeps
saying to insert disc.

I think there are other issues behind all of this. I can see the drive in
Device Manager(DVD/CD-Rom dirves) but dont see it in my Secondary IDE channel
properties. The Roxio Drag to disc software sees the drive and seems to work
ok thru there. But other software does not see a recordable drive. When I use
Windows Movie maker and click on Save to DVD/CD, it sees no drive.
