In Windows XP, capability existed to include graphics on the Desktop
including pictures and/or animations. A few steps were involved but it was
a simple matter of a right mouse click on the desktop. Click PROPERTIES -
Click Customize Desktop - Click Web - Click Gallery or NEW. If New, just
Browse to the animation or picture you wanted to include.

Is this capability gone in Vista or Windows 7 or does it exist in some other
format or method to activate? Are there other procedures to include
animations on the Desktop?

Google for "How to change my desktop background in Windows Vista" or "How to
change my desktop background in Windows 7"

Vista allowed for movie backgrounds out of the box. A little processor
intensive.

Active Desktop is *gone*. You can google for "Active Desktop in Windows
Vista" or "Active Desktop in Windows 7" for more on that.
