I have a very strange problem, I am running XP Pro on a Sony Viao. If the
power goes out (I have a UPS) and the system is forced to go into standby
mode, about half of the icons get changed into a weird looking block of
static. This happens to shortcut icons, and even the My Computer icon, and
other system icons. For the shortcuts, I can right-click and from the
properties page I can change the icon back to it's original, and that seems
to work, however; not all the icons have that ability. Is there any way to
restore the icons back to the original state?

Thanks in Advance

That is a strange problem indeed. By "weird block of static" do you mean it's still the correct icon but it's garbled? What happens when you try rebooting the system? Ever try virus scan? http://housecall.antivirus.com you can do a free scan. Worse case you may have to do recover the system.

It is strange, by block of static, I mean just that, it looks like a block
of television static, all the shortcuts get the exact same icon, and it does
not affect 100% of the icons, only about 50% of them, and there doesn't seem
to be any correlation to it.

I have Norton Anti-virus installed, and rebooting didn't resolve the
problem, however; I removed all my USB devices, and then plugged them back
in, and the icons went back to normal. (I did this to organize my
workspace, not to fix this problem).

Pretty weird, but I guess all's well that ends well.

Thanks for the reply.
