Hello all

Device manager recognizes the printer but is unable to locate the necessary
driver. Any advice on how to get this to work would be greatly appreciated.

well thats wrong because Vista never find the univeral USB drive.. I spent 1
hour on the phone with HP.

It is possible there is something wrong with the printer.
If possible, try on another Windows Vista computer and different USB
cable.

I see you are missing the point Vista finds the printer.. It shows up in
device manager at a deskjet 5740 printer but vista can not find the generic
USB driver.

In XP when you installed a printer you could select the printer from a list
of manufactures and then the printer. How do I do this in Vista ?

When I select Add Printer it does not give me those choices

Hal

You missed the point.
Verify the printer is detected and works properly on another Windows
Vista computer.
What happens with Windows XP is irrelevant to Windows Vista.

Otherwise contact HP...again.
They know the driver and their hardware.

If you haven't already...
Try a different USB cable.
Try a different USB port.
Do you know anyone that has a Windows Vista 64 bit computer?
