Desk top icons do not open to a full screen

When I click on any of my desktop icons they previously opened to a full
screen. Now for some reason they do not open as a full screen. How can I
correct this?

Right click the icon and choose Properties.
Click the down arrow for Run and choose Maximized.
 
I have the same problem. All my shortcuts are set for Maximized, yet they
open "normal window". I've tried tricks of:
-click on icon in u-l, click Close alone, with Shift, with Control, with
Control + Shift
Size from icon, then all four combinations with THAT as above
-Click on X in u-r using all four combinations
-Maximize window, then close using both icon and X with all four
combinations.

Next opening, it's back to original size. Nothing works. Any missed
combinations ?
