Designate picture effect on layout

I am creating a layout for slides that will always take a photo at a
specific location. Perfect application for Version 2007's new master/layout
paradigm. Furthermore, I know that the photo to go in that spot will always
have the Soft Edge effect applied to it.

Can that effect be programmed on the layout??

How is it done? I can't reach any of the picture formatting controls when I
have selected the picture placeholder.

Oh, I think I forgot to mention that part...the photo on the slide would be
controlled by a placeholder. So it is the placeholder that would have the
effect programmed...and it is that that I can't figure out how to do...

Rick,
Select the placeholder shape and set the desired properties from the Format
tab, the picture will inherit those from the placeholder.

I tried it before I posted. Tried it just now again, and it works fine here.
I've uploaded a Jing thing so you can see.

It also works if I create a new slide layout and add the picture placeholder
to the new slide layout. (Just saying that I did it on an existing layout in
the Jing demo, but that doesn't seem to matter.)

I do vaguely recall having a conversation about this way back when, when I
had trouble adding effects to picture placeholders. Maybe it's a service
pack thing? I have SP1 for Office 2007 installed. You?

ooooh, it just occurred to me. You're trying to use picture controls. You
can't do that. You have to use the drawing tools controls on the shape.

How'd you get picture controls to come up when you selected the picture
placeholder, anyway?

The templates MS provides that have actual picture formatting on the picture
placeholders are a little bit of Microsoft magic, kind of like the
backgrounds on the Oceans and other templates (3 of them, I think?) where
the backgrounds change colors in 2003.

That's just it -- I couldn't get the picture controls to come up!

But thanks to that way-cool video you created, I see where I need to go.
Many thanks...

Yeah, I realized that after I'd posted the second post where I'd realized...
(lol)

Anyway, I'm glad you've gotten where you need to go. ;-)
