Hi

Sometimes (quite often actually) my mum tries to print from her laptop and
gets the "helpful" message "this document failed to print" (or something
along those lines). How do I get a more descriptive message so that I can
actually tell what the problem is?

Thanks
Chris

Tell her to look in the Control Panel, click on Admin Tools, look in the
Event Viewer and see if there's something more descriptive there.

Often it's a question of uninstalling and then reinstalling the printer....
see:

This will clear up any problems with corrupted drivers. However it won't
sort out any hardware problems... ie actual physical problem with the
printer or cable or port that the cable is attached to on the motherboard.

Thanks, I'll try the Event Viewer.

I know that it's not a physical problem, because the printer's shared over
the network, and all the other computers can print to it without any
problems. A reboot always fixes it though.

Thanks
Chris
