Hello,

Since my last message I've learnt that my HP PSC 750 unit hasn't got any
descreening options. So I've got a new question!

Is there any 3rd party descreening software I could buy that is compatable
with my HP PSC 750?

Silverfast is too expensive and doesn't cover the 750 and VueScan also doesn't
cover the 750.

Are there any others out there?

Thanks.

You can descreen by scanning at a high dpi to resolve the dots in the
printing screen. And then applying a little Gaussian blur.

300 dpi to 600 dpi should be enough resolution. Then resample in a photo
editor down to the correct size for the final image.

The advice in the reference is very good - but it was clearly written
some time ago; some of the caveats about computer power requirements
are no longer relevant for most people.

That is true about the length time ago it was written. The methods are still
valid.

Wayne Fulton has a new book out now that has some updates of many of the
things on his web site.

And yes computers have gotten faster and better, computing power is maybe 10
times what it was, say five years ago.

My experience has been that scanning the image at a diagonal, even a color
image, is the best initial step.
