Deploying Themes

I am running an 2000 Server with XP Clients. Each user has
access to up to three different networks from their
desktops and it is possible to get confused as to which
network you are logged into. I want to deploy a standard
theme to all the Clients on my network and prevent them
from editing it.
I know how to set wallpaper, screensaver etc from the GP
but the cream on the cake will be to apply a custom boot
and logon screen. These seem to be controlled by
ntosknl.exe and logonui.exe and there are packages
available to create custom exe files.
My problem is that the only way I know to implement them
is to delete the file on the client machine and replace it
with the standard file before logon (i.e. from a DOS boot
disk).
How can I deploy custom versions of these files to the
clients?

Hello Adrian,

These files are in use and it probably wouldn't be a good idea to delete and
replace them via a script whenever the computer is rebooted. I do not think
you will be able to replace ntoskrnl.exe between a logon, perhaps a reboot.

You can force one particular Theme however I am not sure if that will meet
your needs:

In his domain policy there is a policy under user configuration ->
Administrative
templates -> Control panel -> Display -> Desktop Themes called
"Load a specific visual style file or force windows classic"

Here is something interesting I came across that may assist you further:

Apply Luna theme in XP from command prompt....

regsvr32 /s /n
/i:/InstallVS:"'%windir%\resources\themes\luna\luna.msstyles','NormalColor',
'NormalS
ize'" themeui.dll

May be worth a shot.
