I want to set up a 2008 server in my domain to be used primarily as our
intranet server. We have purchased SharePoint Server 2007 to install on it-
we also want to use it as a file server and transfer all of our shares on to
this server.
We currrently have 3 2003 servers- 1 2000server- and an NT server. The goal
would be to remove the 2000 and NT boxes after transfering all data/shares to
the 2008 box.
I have not worked with 2008 server so I am looking for articles or info that
would lead me in the direction of what we want to do with this server. Can I
use 2008 Standard Server? Can it be standalone or a member server? Will the
2008 server want to assume GC roles?
I want to use it as:
1. Sharepoint Server/ Intranet Web Sight
2. File Server
3. What roles need to be set up on the server.
Thanks
