Sorry if this is a basic question.

I need to deny access, from the other two computers on my home network,
to my C:/ drive. I've read a lot of the threads on this forum, but
can't figure out how to do it.

Also, can the other computers remote access my machine and see what's
displayed?

Thanks, Paul

Right click the drive in My Computer, select sharing and security, don't
share it...

If you want and have XP Pro you can do some interesting things. You can do
the same with VNC if you'd like to play with it - and it's easy to
configure.

thanks, that's pretty easy. However, it resets to share when the PC is
rebooted or the server connection is reset. Is there any way around
that? Cheers

Make sure all accounts including the administrator account have strong
passwords. Disable the guest account. The administrator account is used to
access the c$ share. The share will still be there but access will be denied
without a password. With XP Home you have to boot into safe mode to access
the administrator account. I'm not sure off the top of my head but I don't
think XP Home creates the administrative shares anyway.

If you really want to disable the shares there are registry keys you can
edit to do this. This can cause unexpected problems so I'll leave it to you
to search Google for how to do it. It is not recommended.

I'm not sure what I was thinking when I responded the first time. I think I
was thinking you'd wanted to disable them FROM the other PCs. Anyhow...

Remove the share to C$ and that *might* work. I can't say that I've ever
tried to remove that one I'm afraid so, if it doesn't work post back.

help! I've denied myself access to my c drive now, through denying
access to me\administrators through 'permissions' ...

I haven't a clue how to get access to my c: drive back

I've got XP Pro ...

It's OK. got it back by clicking my computer, right clicking c drive
properties, security, selecting all users and clicking allow ful
control.

there's only 3 pc's on the network. I don't think I can deny access t
the other two PC's without denying myself ..
